ABOUT ME
ABOUT ME
Hi, my name is Kimberly Atkins-Petkov. I fell in love with this profession back in high school when I watched a Speech-Language Pathologist help my grandpa communicate following a laryngectomy. After that experience, I knew I wanted to help individuals and their families find their voice.

I started in the field working with toddlers and school aged children with a variety of speech and language disorders. I quickly realized my passion for assessing and treating early language disorders and speech sound disorders and was eager to learn more. Specializing in treatment of children birth-10 had lead me to advance specific clinical skills to best help my clients and their families.

I have obtained an additional certification in Beckman Oral Motor Training Protocol which focuses on increasing functional response to pressure and movement, range, strength, variety and control of movement for the lips, cheeks, jaw and tongue to increase oral motor skills and speech production. I am also trained in PROMPT (level 2) which is a multidimensional approach to speech production disorders that has come to embrace not only the well-known physical-sensory aspects of motor performance, but also its cognitive-linguistic and social-emotional aspects. Both trainings aid in my ability to appropriately address the underlying factors in each child’s speech sound disorder, which leads to quicker and more efficient therapy outcomes. In addition, I have also received formal training in myofunctional disorders through the Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (AOMT). I received the ACE award in 2020 for my dedication and commitment to ongoing continuing education.

I'm originally from Long Island, New York. I attended Adelphi University for both my B.S. degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and my M.S. degree in Speech Language Pathology. I moved to Atlanta in Summer 2017, then Colorado in the summer of 2021. I am currently licensed in the state of Georgia and Colorado. I am also certified with the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA). I love the field of speech therapy and working with a variety of clients and communicative needs. When I am not working, I enjoy traveling, hiking trails with my dog, spending time with my new husband, friends and family, exercising, sitting in the park with a book, and relaxing on a beach.
